ARTICLE: Pusha T and Malice of The Clipse [Cain and Abel]

Clipse have been in the music industry for almost two decades now. Well known for tracks with Pharrell and Justin Timberlake etc. However, in the past 3 years there hasn't been much music released from them. Up until Pusha T (resurfaced on a G.O.O.D. Friday song with Kanye West whom he announced signing with in September 2010.

A reason for Pusha T going solo might have something to do with the fact that his brother "Malice" is now a born again christian with a book in  most stores in the U.S.A. His new approach to life has also meant that he has denounced his previous ways and is now living his life the Christian way.

On the other hand, since signing with Kanye, Pusha T has gone in the opposite direction to his brother with his latest video "My God" where he stabs a voodoo doll repeatedly and talks about all sorts of profanity. It seems almost as if he is milking the whole thing. So people can start calling him a devil worshipper. Its all promotion and the best have done it. Jay-Z and Kanye West are two examples of controversial rappers who always seem to be trying to shock the religious with their wild statements and gestures.

Well it seems things have gone according to plan for Pusha T, he's remained relevant. His album comes out in June and its called "Fear of God".  I don't even know what to think about the title of the album. I'll let you guys decide.

FREE THE REALNESS!

I don't even know where to start with this one. Two months ago  no one had heard of English Frank. All of a sudden the Internet went ham for this guy. To begin with, English Frank is an upcoming rapper from Brixton.
He got really popular quickly with a video recorded by @Grimedaily. In this video, he burnt some so-called designer brands. Some have said they looked like replicas of the original. Moreover, the whole point of the video was to show that these items of clothing didn't mean anything to him. Some argued with how he went about proving this point. People like "Big Chess" made sure their opinions on this were heard as a backlash commenced.

However, you can't deny the talent, he is a good rapper. Have a listen to this song, Good concept.

NEW ALBUM: Chipmunk releases "Transition" & Turns Haters Into Fans!

The new album came out two days ago. A very strong and well put together piece of work with many hot artists on there. This is Chipmunk's second album. My favourite track on the song at the moment is "Pray for me". Another song to look out for on there is "Armageddon" featuring Wretch 32. As always, this kid has a lot to say and having achieved at the age of 20. The future looks bright and full of #munks.

"I'm not a star, Somebody lied"  *Drops Bombs like Tim Westwood*
Lex Luger formula once again. Rick Ross stole last summer with tracks like "I'm not a star" and "B.M.F".
Now Lil Wayne and Rick Ross on a similar beat. This is sure to be the HYPEST track this summer.

"Load up them Choppers like it's December 21st"
"Roll up and cock it and hit the n*gga where it hurts."
"If I die today remember me like John Lennon."

COMING SOON : Skepta - Community Payback [FREE MIXTAPE]

Highly anticipating this mixtape. This is the 2nd U.K. artist to have DJ Whoo Kid host their mixtape, first being @SN1giggs. The buzz around Skepta right now is monumental and rightfully so with hit after hit dropping from his latest album. You may have even seen the post featuring him a few weeks back for "All Over The House".

NEW MUSIC : Ryan Leslie - The Glory [Debut Rap Song]

Ryan Leslie has shocked the world... Again.
It seems as if there is nothing this man can do. As if it wasn't enough that he got into Harvard University at the age of 15 and graduated in Economics at the age of 19. No, he had to become a singer and date Cassie.

As if that wasn't enough. Now Ryan Leslie brings you his debut RAP song.

NEW VIDEO: Chipmunk x Keri Hilson - In The Air

Two weeks ago I posted the making of this highly anticipated music video. The video debuted this week on GMTV. Last year you could get away with calling Chipmunk a pop star. To an extent this is no longer true. As his new album is named "Transition" you can rightfully see the transition this artist is making in every song, freestyle, interview that he does. From a UK Act to a worldwide phenomenon.

This video is the second song to be released out of the new album. The previous being the single "Champion" that peaked at No.2 in the Official U.K. Charts featuring Chris Brown.

*WAVE* Ski Beats - Nothing But Us [Curren$y x Smoke DZA]

This video has been out for a few months already. However, it hasn't received the exposure it deserves in my opinion.

This is definitely one to zone out to. The special effects in the video suit the lyrics of the song. This is the first track that I ever heard Smoke DZA feature on. Smoke is the person in a pink hat and shirt in the photo below.  I am well and truly impressed by the laid back flowing of the two in this video.

Thus, Enjoy.

ARTICLE : Atlantic Records Industry Takeover [SMOKING SECTION]

By David D from "Smoking Section"

Imagine a label that’s figured it all out.

Imagine the record execs sitting at a board meeting, looking at their financial numbers, in a panic over the state of the company and the music industry in general. The company’s Hip-Hop sales have struggled – a waning roster thinned out by incarcerations and mental breakdowns has crushed the label’s star power. No matter how much money they pump into a Hip-Hop album, and how many fans artist A seems to garner, the label can’t seem to get numbers above 100K.

The wheels start turning. Interests are piqued as executives realize if they can skim some money from artists’ outside endeavors then they can offset the disappointing album sales by scraping in the extra dough. The Internet isn’t earning them any money so it’s time to fully embrace the other multimedia avenues that have been under their noses forever. Consumer money is elastic but movies, TV shows and clothing companies have an unending pool of endorsement cash.

But how does this label tap into this money? Rappers are full of curse worse and their albums are unpredictable. If Rapper A sends the execs a 14-track album full of gritty bars, it won’t get any love from Jersey Shore. So the label starts a search, screening possible crossover hits with already-finished hooks from soft R&B artists backed by xylophones and synths. Perhaps the label even shops the skeletal track to movies looking for songs for its preview. Or they pitch it towards TV shows looking for a track to play during the dramatic monologue of the pilot episode before the rapper even lays a vocal down. Once Sponsor A bites, the label zips the song to the rapper and demands that he made the track his next single regardless of how it gibes with the rest of his album or his library to date. F*ck his loyal fanbase. They don’t buy albums anyway.

The album, full of sponsorship-ready tunes, is released. The singles have already reached top spots on the charts and are in every commercial on television, so they’re primed to score hundreds of thousands of units in its first week. But even if it doesn’t, the label is swimming in extra revenue from the cross-promotions even if an artist didn’t sign a 360 deal. Additionally, you better believe the label is working contracts that offer guarantee at least some of the bread from advertising. It’s a win/win for the label. That’s how the record label has combated the shrinking album sales.

And that seems to be how Atlantic Records has decided to go about business.
